The crumbling of Singapore has begun....

I remember some shophouses had cracks forming when the Circle Line was still under construction.

looks like it is at least 36.9 years old. concrete buildings with rusted and corroded rebars don’t last well in tropical regions past 69 years - sexpected lifespan. some of the oldest hdb blocks will start to crumble in 6.9 years. laws of physics and chemistry.

many of the buildings in singapore are not meant for 99years. that is why government always comes out with the scheme to knock of the 30yo buildings.

Industrial property is 30 ear lice right? Build so good for what? Waste.

All these will surface more as cheap built nowadays, sell exp, these are all going to backfire when owners are told to go for new or old blocks to move, then all will CB wakeup as they need to retake loan, let c all these

Expect BTO flats to collapse next. I'd be happy to know how those skinny steel beams can tahan the weight of 40 floors of concrete and steel.

Stroke Heng's territory? Part of the East Coast plan?

SINGAPORE — A stretch of concrete sunshade about 40m long collapsed from the roof of a four-storey industrial building in Bedok on Sunday (Aug 22).

JTC, which is the owner of the building located at Bedok Industrial Park E, has cordoned off the areas directly below the roof where the concrete sunshade was at for public safety, the Building and Construction Authority said.

The agency in charge of industrial development used equipment to remove the remaining part of the sunshade still hanging on the edge of the roof.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the incident at 3013 Bedok Industrial Park E at about 9.20am on Sunday.

SCDF personnel conducted a search of the affected area and found that no one was trapped. There were also no reported injuries.

BCA said it has directed JTC to engage a professional engineer who could advise on the measures needed to remove the dislodged sunshade, carry out a detailed investigation and recommend permanent rectification works.

As an added safety precaution, the professional engineer is also required to inspect three other adjacent blocks in the area with similar concrete sunshade design, said BCA.

“BCA and the professional engineers engaged by JTC have inspected and assessed that the structural integrity of the main building is not affected,” it added.

The sunshade could have been just zinc. No need for concrete structure.

Ironically, I think many of the older HDB flats (built late 1970s to 1990s) will last longer than the newer bomb shelter included, 40+ storey ones.

They're just trying to 'increase the value of the land' and enrich their cronies at the SLA and the property developers... that's all.
