TERMITE-INFECTED HOUSES “NOT
UNSAFE”?
“In Parliament on Monday (17 Aug), DPM Tharman took pain to describe the differences between AGO’s
report on public agencies and the findings on the opposition AHPETC’s financial
audit.” (quote, http://www.tremeritus.com/2015/08/19/tharman-and-sylvia-lock-horns-over-ahpetc-finances/
)
In the course of the debate, DPM Tharman was quoted as having said in
comparison, the Government agencies audited by the AGO “DO NOT HAVE UNSAFE
HOUSES”. (my capitals)
Let’s look at the facts to see how “not unsafe” the PA/GROs “houses”
are:
2000/2001: Last time GROs’ financial statements were audited – 14
years ago
2002 – 2013: No financial statements of related GROs provided by PA for
more than
. 10 years.
2006 – 2013: PA’s own auditors issued ADVERSE OPINIONS for the omission of
related
. GROs financial statements from PA’s
financial statements.
2013/2014: First time in over 10 years, GROs’ financial statements
provided by to
. PA’s own auditors.
IN SHORT:
From these shocking facts, can we be assured that the “houses are not
unsafe”?
Termite infestation wood damage
Are houses with serious termite infestation “not unsafe”? Wouldn’t such
structures be weakened by the termites’ insatiable appetite over 14 years? And
if and when such “not unsafe houses” collapse, can you image the nests of tons
of termites spilling out, scurrying and scuttling from the wreckage?
In such a tragic event who would be the losers – the people, who pay for the
“houses” squatted upon by the PA and GROs!
Before the disaster strike, PAP had better heed and act upon Mrs. Lina
Chiam’s call in Parliament on 17/08/2015 :
“She then asked the ministry overseeing PA to disclose the financial
statements and records of the various GROs for those years and have them
audited.” ( Mrs
Chiam: PA’s GRO lapses only tip of iceberg )
And if they fail to take up the challenge, we have only come to one
conclusion – that the termite infestation is so serious that they tried to paper
over the walls of the “houses” to look “not unsafe” for 14
years.

- For more than 10 years (2012 – 2013) PA did not submit the related GROs’
financial statements for audit.
- For 8 years (2006 – 2013) PA did not include the related GROs’ financial
statements despite their own auditors’ REPEATED ADVISE OPINIONS on the
issue.
- In the FIRST AUDIT (FY2014) that include the GROs’ financial statements, the
AGO (Auditor General Office) found WIDE-SPREAD AND SERIOUS “LAPSES” AND
“IRREGULARITIES” in the GROs – after “random test-checking of a small sample
size of GROs – a mere 6.5% “.
From these shocking facts, can we be assured that the “houses are not
unsafe”?
