Party-goers urged not to buy from illegal hawkers
Dec 31, 2010

AS SINGAPORE gears up for end-of-year bashes, the National Environment Agency (NEA) is also preparing to deal with the litter and illegal hawkers that come with the parties.

On New Year's Eve, the NEA warned that its officers will be on duty to catch litterbugs and illegal hawkers during these parties.

It advised the public who are participating in the Christmas and New Year parties along Orchard Road, Marina Bay and other locations in Singapore, to help keep public areas clean by disposing their litter into the refuse bins.

The NEA also cautioned against buying from illegal hawkers who may sell food, drinks and party novelties, including foam spray.

Litterbugs risk being fined up to $1,000 and up to 12 hours of Corrective Work Order, while illegal hawkers may be charged up to $4,000 in fines and jail not exceeding three months.
