BANGKOK, 6 October 2013 (NNT) – Nok Mini Saab 340 has skidded off a runway at Udon Thani Airport while landing. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

At 9:30 on Sunday, Nok Air flight DD8611 from Chiang Mai to Udon Thani slid off a runway while trying to land at Udon Thani Airport, causing chaos among passengers. However, no injuries have been reported.

After a quick inspection, the officials said the accident was caused by a malfunction in the plan’s hydraulic steering system. However, the investigation is now underway, while the damage is being assessed.

Thai plane slips off runway, no injuries

A plane operated by Thai budget carrier Nok Air slipped off the runway while landing in a northeastern province Sunday, the airline said, the latest of several accidents at the kingdom's airports.

The small aircraft, which was carrying 25 passengers and three crew, suffered engine trouble as it taxied to the gate after landing in the city of Udon Thani.

"The captain was able to stop the plane safely," Nok Air said in a statement posted on its official Facebook page, adding all onboard were "safe".

The 34-seater SAAB 340B turboprop plane, which had flown from the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai, will be towed from grass near the taxi area but is not disrupting other flights, the airline said.

Last month a Thai Airways plane skidded off the runway in Bangkok after the landing gear malfunctioned, slightly injuring more than a dozen passengers as they escaped down the emergency slide.

In August another Nok Air plane became wedged in m&d after skidding off the runway during take-off at Trang airport in southern Thailand, briefly forcing the closure of the airport. No one was hurt in the incident.
