Teen on probation for hurting stepmum

A STUDENT who slammed his bedroom door on his stepmother's left hand last December, severing a fingertip, was ordered to serve 11/2 years of probation yesterday.
Damien Tay Yao Sheng, 16, will also perform 150 hours of community service.
He pleaded guilty this month to causing serious hurt to Madam Tan Yah Peng, 43.
The Community Court heard that last Dec 4, the teenager returned to his father's apartment in Glendale Park condominium in Hillview Avenue.
As he stepped into the unit, Madam Tan, a housewife, told him to wash his shoes. He was not in the mood for the task, but did not wish to spark off a row, so he headed for his room.
She followed him and an argument and brief tussle ensued near the door to his room.
