Yet another Taiwanese citizen has been sentenced to the rattan cane in Singapore for loansharking offenses, the third such case within five months, Taiwan's representative office in Singapore reported Thursday.
The latest offender is 30-year-old Chen Ci Fan, who was convicted Jan. 7. He was sentenced to 46 months in jail and six strokes of the cane. Full story

Singapore, Jan. 13 (CNA) Yet another Taiwanese citizen has been sentenced to the rattan cane in Singapore for loansharking offenses, the third such case within five months, Taiwan's representative office in Singapore reported Thursday.
The latest offender is 30-year-old Chen Ci Fan, who was convicted Jan. 7. He was sentenced to 46 months in jail and six strokes of the cane.
He is the fourth Taiwanese to be convicted of loansharking offenses in Singapore and the third to be given the cane since September last year.
Taiwan's representative to Singapore, Shih Yea-ping, said staff from her office have visited Chen in jail and have informed his family.
