Taiwan to ban certain estrogens in cosmetics in May
2016/01/17 18:12:07

Taipei, Jan. 17 (CNA) Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration announced Sunday that it will impose a ban on the use of three types of cancer-causing estrogens in cosmetics on May 1.
From May 1, the import, manufacture, sale and supply of cosmetics containing estradiol, estrone and ethinyl estradiol will be prohibited, according to an announcement issued by the FDA.
Estradiol, estrone and ethinyl estradiol were declared by the World Health Organization as Class I carcinogens in 2012, FDA officials said.
While the European Union, Canada and ASEAN member countries have banned the use of these ingredients in cosmetics, Taiwan currently has a control list under which manufacture or importing cosmetics containing estradiol, estrone and ethinyl estradiol requires a permit.
