Observances thru faith is good for any mainstream religion, but it needs not go into extremities..

Even the times of prophet Muhammad, he understood that there will be circumstances that some may need food & water to survive - such as kids, the elderly & those with health conditions, or else they will perish, & even in his time, EXEMPTIONS were made. Only morons whom had misunderstood or WILLFULLY misinterpreted his message for their own glory & hold to power would do otherwise. THERE IS NO COMPULSION IN ISLAM.

True Islam is about peace, & NOT death to anyone.


Just to share an experience - I was once in Kelantan Malaysia on an agricultural biz deal. It was long & hard, had missed dinner, supper & breakfast in working out the details, so being dead hungry, I decided to drop by the nearest Kedai ( shop ) serving food.

I was tucking into my fishball noodles when I noticed a scrawny elderly dark skinned malay man from a table with a group lunching on meals directly in front of me, walking past me.

The next moment, I received a hard slap upon the back of my head. Stunned, I stood up & saw it was the same elderly man whom turned around & perform such a dastardly deed upon another.

My initial emotional reaction was to defend myself - to squeezed the neck of the scrawny old man & snuff the life out of him, but thanks to my military training, to always stay calm before reacting in peaceful times, I just stared at him, awaiting an explanation which he was quick to do so - he said I was a disgrace to Islam, being young & fit to not observe the Ramadan.

Rather than to harm the old man, I simply took out my passport & NRIC to show it to him that I am a Chinese. He apologized & quickly walk back to his table, & his friends were equally embarrassed & quickly left the coffee shop...

In retrospect, I guessed that he egoistically thought that with merciful exemption from fasting in the month of Ramadan, it was his duty to FORCE others to adhere to so called Islamic principles as he ignorantly presumed so, so as to earn divine merit & earthy egoistical approbation & acceptance for his own failure to observe fasting, let alone the wider TRUE peaceful teachings of Islam....
