(1) Putin already wants to wipe out ISIS.
(2) USA under Obama does not want to wipe out ISIS. They conducted many air operations over many weeks if not months and could not achieve the what Russia did in a week.

russia have no choice. syria is the only base there in middle east. more over, there is increasing signs of resistance forces from chechen reaching out to afghan, pakistan, china and various other location where radical moslems r making headways. it is not merely a regional warfare but an alliance where monkeys get to scratch each other back.

what russian did correctly is the disruptive effect to radical moslem forces. the growth of recruitment has tapered off since the closure of turkish border and capture of north syria areas by YPG/ marines. iraq has also by itself through various fractions made headways into ramadi. the squeeze in all direction be it hebollah, iranians or syrian etc are directed towards isolation weakening and destruction of al nursa front (qaeda) and ISIS.

the flaw in warfare with usa is not uncommon when the president answers to the nation and has his hands tied to a opposing congress. the situation is like ancient romans. gg to war needs budget which no one can afford to say lets do it. and selected the convenience and political gains. in effect, the arts of war by soon zi already defined unassailable, un-braided freedom for the general on the field to deploy all necessary forces needed to win the war. obama's only agenda is to lock down the isis until the next president takes over. it is an neccesary but unpopular war.

to win a battle is another thing. the usa although powerful is unwelcome in the iraqi/ kurdish and syrian border especially by the shite tribes and ex saddam henchmen never mind what the press says. the ruling parties very much corrupted, self centered has not been providing the sort of political collaboration and adhesion needed for the iraqi solution. fractions continue to fight, where the enemy of my enemy is my fiend. iraq and syria will dissolute and remain into smaller warring fractions just like the division of sudan as long as the differences between the key sunni and shite remains. i hope all moslem countries would convene a discussion to empower an international force to get rid of these radicals in middle east africa and north asia instead of remaining silence over the issue.
