I was surprised to find a tudunged Muslim woman in charge of a Salvation Army Thrift Store in Upper Changi Rd North that sells brand new and used items donated by the public, when I visited it at the recommendation of a friend. And I saw most of the customers were Muslims too.

If this does not show how far multi racial harmony has worked well in Singapore, then nothing will. Let us hope that nothing like NKF or Renci cases will ever happen to the Salvation Army. I wonder too, whether they have solid management procedures to ensure evrything is above board so as not to lose the public's charity and trust.

The Red Shield Industries (RSI) Family Thrift Stores are a social enterprise as well as a serving ministry. The Salvation Army receives donations-in-kind from the public and companies. In turn, RSI resells them at affordable costs through its network of Family Thrift Stores. The income generated supports Salvation Army social and community programmes.

Jobs are created through the RSI work-therapy programmes for under-privileged people. The work helps them to earn a living and gain useful employment experience so they can be reintegrated into society.

RSI is also active in fundraising, receiving generous support from many organisations by way of donations or the offer of premises to hold bazaars for the purpose of carrying out mass-collection exercises.

nothing wrong what...its not as if the staff are required to attend prayer sessions? You have Malay stewardess serving alcohol on flights - its just a job.

Exactly my sentiments! It's just a job!:)

I see nothing wrong with that, just like everyone celebrates Christmas, knowing or not knowing that they are celebrating the birth of Jesus. The Christians are not objecting as this helps to bring the message.

No, Christmas, no Hari Raya, no Deepavali!?, you celebrate Earth Day?:D

one day, when peace fall to the world, we could fxxk each other instead of fight each other

One reason why many celebrate Christmas is because it is now returning to its roots, i.e. a pagan celebration called yule giving thanks for surviving the winter solstice, the longest (possibly coldest) night of the year. Many other cultures have similar celebrations, e.g. dong zi among the Chinese.

Christians recognised that this celebration was too important to wipe out and so instead aligned its own birth story with it.

Everyday is a celebration for me, and why not ?
I rejoiced even when I was down and out because I am an overly optimistic kind of person. We all are on this planet but for a short time so count your blessings and carry on....:D

Maybe their mission statement says it all:

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Anyway I think TS' point is about racial harmony, and not about a Muslim working for SA. As he mentioned many customers are Muslims, it is apt to have a peer to understand and see to their needs.
