In another case of a Sim Lim shop scam, an Indian foreign student studying in Singapore has come forward to share her experience of being scammed at a store in Sim Lim Square.
According to Straits Times, the 19 year old had agreed to pay $999 for an iPhone 6 from Mobile 22 at Sim Lim Square on October 9 after searching many other stores around Singapore and deciding that this was a good deal.
She was told that a warranty would be $39.90 for a 2 year warranty and she had agreed, believing it to be quite fair.
However, she was shocked to find that an extra $1000 had been deducted from her card and when she raised this with the shop keeper, he pointed to the contract which had an “x” between $39.90 and 24 months.
The student explained that the shop keeper had strategically covered the x while she was signing the invoice.

The shop keeper shouted and her and told her she could not get a refund and eventually she had to settle with paying $551 instead of $1000 for the warranty.
The student explained that the money was for her tuition fees and now she has to skip meals and cut costs on food so that she can pay her tuition fees.
Mobile 22 had 9 complaints with CASE in the 3 months between June and September.
