HDB won't shrink flats, says Khaw Boon Wan

By Jessica Cheam

National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan has offered some clarity on the ever-emotive issue of HDB flat sizes, giving his assurance that Singapore will not go the way of cities such as Hong Kong and Tokyo, where flats have become tiny.

Speaking to The Straits Times, Mr Khaw said the Government is committed 'to maintain a good quality of life', and there are no plans to shrink HDB flats. Any future change in flat sizes will depend largely on family sizes, he said.

Mutually contradicting statements.
Who is bullshitting? $8 Khaw or HDB CEO? You decide.

Shrinking HDB flats due to need to maximise land and to adapt
But some say smaller apartments do not square with needs of a developed nation

HDB's comments come after a debate erupted over earlier remarks made by its chief executive Cheong Koon Hean that smaller flats do not have to mean a lower quality of living.

She cited numbers which showed that although flat sizes are smaller, the number of people in an average household has also decreased, meaning living space per person for HDB residents has actually increased over time.

its the not the size of the flat that is shrinking, its the size of our pupils.

Studies has shown, the size of our pupils have shrunk since the last 10 years, as a result, things that we see are smaller. Flats perceived to be smaller, portions of food are smaller, pay packets are smaller.

This has also been shown to be positively correlated to the size of the balls (sinkie men) and breasts (sinkie women).

The government has recommended that a continuous & sustained preference for all things white will help "improve" the situation especially to reaffirm such preference every five years.

balconies are nice to have, but it is the total liveable space that is important. screw those bay-windows and air-con ledge. these are areas which cannot be counted towards the floor area.

the balcony will be bigger than the rooms, ha ha ha & the family size will be smaller, two adults, one child & maybe one maid. Therefore the size is not smaller, but is already SMALL. Furthermore the size of the average 60% SINkies brains had shrunk by that percentage..so the size doesn't matter... it is the__________!:D

Don't forget the bomb shelter.
Counter-terrorism inside a HDB flat... serious business!

those kutus already started designing the bomb shelter in the stairwell and fully equipped with water supplies.
wonder what went thru' those idiots' mind when they planned a room specifically for the bomb shelter. whole bloody building collapse and even with the bomb shelters erect, how the hell folks get their water from and how the hell they come down for those trapped on higher floors? really foolish kutus...:mad::mad:

Note the red colored line. his assurance still come to nothing.

me supposed those kutus assumed that the HDB they've built can withstand the payload of any amount of bombs...:confused::confused:

size does matter after all :o:o:o

total area unchanged but hdb will build aircon ledge bigger and bigger.

hi there

1. raise each block to 50 level high.
2. with just 2-lane carriageway separating each block.
3. hahaha!
4. very good for integration where your neighbours can literally look into each other's unit.
5. so much for space!

I guess quite a number here either do not know how to read simple reports or simply want to read what they think.

What the Minister is saying is that HDB flats will not be smaller than Shoeboxes under his charge. He became the Minister for MND only last year. So those who complain about small HDB flats better pray that he remains the Minister for years to come.

Nothwithstanding the complain about small flats and high prices - why are so many people still queuing up for Shoeboxes when there is a new project? Aren't they sending the wrong signal to the Minister? If there is no demand, developers or HDB won't be building these flats.

These people should be queuing for a house in Iskandar.
