CHANNEL surfing on cable is to become easier from April 30. StarHub is regrouping all its 150 channels into eight categories.
The new groups will be numbered in the hundreds and organised under themes including Sports, Kids, Entertainment and Movies.
Under the new system, for example, HBO, now found on StarHub Channel 60, will be put in the Movies category and will have a new channel number, 601. ESPN, now StarHub Channel 23, will come under the Sports category and will be found on Channel 294.
Some subscribers have expressed unhappiness with the change as the present numbering system has been around since 1995.
Undergraduate Charlyn Lim, 22, who watches Discovery Travel & Living (StarHub Channel 16) on a regular basis, said: 'I have already memorised all the channels that I love to watch and now, I've to try and remember all over again.'
Mr Tan Tong Hai, StarHub's chief operating officer, conceded that the new system will take getting used to: 'We understand that this could bring about temporary inconvenience to our subscribers and may take a period of time to get used to, but we are doing our best to make this a smooth and fuss-free transition.'
