22 Officers of the Army above the rank of Brigadier and a new prominent Minister of the Govt. noted for his loquacity have forwarded their applications to the Home affairs Ministry asking for residence visas in Singapore, according to information reaching Lanka e news from reliable sources.
To obtain a residence visa in Singapore the total cost for a single individual is Dollars 80,000/- which in Sri Lanka rupees is around Rs. 66 lakhs. This amount has to be deposited with their Home affairs Ministry. Already the 23 of them have deposited these monies, according to reports reaching Lanka e news. The total amount deposited in SL Rupees is over Rs. 150 million.
This group had asked for residence visas from several European countries, but, they have all refused to give them. Hence, they have sought Singapore residence visas.
Among the Army officers who have asked for residence visas, there are also officers of the superior ranks who have carried out war operations against the LTTE, it is learnt.
The Army officers and the Minister seeking residence visas at a time when the war is over has sparked widespread speculations in the political circles.
