Statement on Punggol East By-election:

The National Solidarity Party congratulates Ms Lee Li Lian and the Workers Party on their win in the Punggol East SMC by-election.

While the present win does little to alter the balance of power in Parliament, it is an opportunity for the WP to now lead the national conversation by listening to all Singaporeans and speaking for them. In this, our sincere hope is that they will bring the same energy and industry with which they serve their own constituents, to bear on national issues as well. We look forward to more robust debates on both principle and policy in Parliament.

Finally, we also congratulate Dr Koh Poh Koon of the People's Action Party on a well fought campaign. We wish him the best.

Sincerely,

Hazel Poa
Secretary-General
on behalf of the CEC.

Interesting vs SPP's

The SPP congratulates MP-elect Lee Li Lian and the Workers’ Party for their decisive win in the Punggol East By-election. Their wide margin of victory shows that Singaporeans increasingly want more democracy in Singapore and more Opposition members in Parliament. Together with the Workers’ Party, the SPP will work hard in Parliament to scrutinise the government’s population white paper and the 2013 Budget, to speak up for Singaporeans, and to make sure no Singaporean is left behind.

Never congratulate KPK

where's RP's and SDA's? disbanded liao??

They have lost so much money on this campaign. Apart from a combined $29k in election deposits, thousands more for campaign posters and fliers, plus thousands more for RP's 2 rallies. What is sad is that the money RP (or really KJ) spent on this campaign could have been given to needy residents in PE. The clip on CNA showing him and party member Karen Yap visiting an elderly resident is a case in point.
