38 other foreigners also arrested in anti-human trafficking operation.

JOHOR BARU - MALAYSIAN police have detained a Singaporean and 37 other foreigners, including two Filipino and Vietnamese children, in an operation against human trafficking.

Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said in the operation on Saturday, police raided a house in Taman Universiti, Skudai where all the foreigners were kept.

'The Singaporean is being remanded for five days for investigation while the other 37 foreigners, including the two children, were sent to shelter homes in Kuala Lumpur,' he told reporters on Monday.

He said police were still investigating the role played by the Singaporean.

'The other foreigners detained were meant to be taken to another country,' he said, adding that Johor police would not allow Malaysia country to be used as a transit point for human trafficking.

Mr Mokhtar said the initial police investigation showed that all the Filipinos and Vietnamese detained had had legally entered the country.
