A 41-YEAR-OLD Singaporean was killed when the sport utility vehicle he was travelling in rammed into a road divider along the North-South Expressway in Johor last Saturday morning.
Mr Khairudin Kairom is said to have been flung out of the Ssangyong vehicle and died on the spot from severe injuries, said Kulaijaya district's police superintendent Zulkefly Yahya.
Mr Khairudin had been a rear passenger in the car carrying seven Singaporeans, and had been heading back to Singapore from the town of Segamat in Johor. It is not known whether he was wearing a seatbelt at the time.
Supt Zulkefly told my paper that a punctured tyre caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, sending it into a skid before it crashed into the road divider at about 9.30am. He added that the driver and the five other passengers were family members of Mr Khairudin. They suffered minor injuries and were treated at a Kulaijaya hospital. They were all discharged last Saturday.
The group was visiting relatives living in Segamat over the Hari Raya Puasa holiday. Mr Khairudin's body has since been returned to his family here.
