to be fair, both are two largest economies, two largest manufacturing countries, two biggest military spenders, two largest producers of scientific and tech research based on paper counts or nonself citation counts in scopus or web of science index, or also on r&d spending, or two largest presence on fortune 500 list of largest 500 (publicly known/listed) companies etc etc.
so yeah, both got quite a bit to sell actually.
