The prosecutor's office of Hanoi is considering indicting a South Korean man with stealing VND20 million (US$935) from a Vietnamese woman in September.
The suspect, Yang Kyung San, 44, was arrested on September 12, a day after he stole the money at a dinner party in a hotel in Cau Giay District. His act was captured on the hotel's security cameras.
Local police said Wednesday they have finished the investigation and forwarded the case dossier to the prosecutor's office.
According to the police, on September 11, Yang, who had stayed in been in Vietnam since 2013 as a businessman seeking opportunities, joined a group of Vietnamese friends at the party, where he sat next to Doan Thi Kim Hoa.
Yang later discovered that Hoa carried a lot of money in her purse. When the woman went out of the room, leaving the purse on her chair, Yang stole it before making an excuse to leave the room.
In the hotel lobby, Yang took all the money from the purse before throwing it away.
It wasn't until the next morning that Hoa found her purse had disappeared. She returned to the hotel, where the staff reviewed the surveillance cameras and caught Yang in the act.
