The South Korean military is buying about 360 new pieces of weaponry from the US capable of destroying up
to 40 tanks each. The US Defense Department notified Congress Last Friday of the South Korean government’s
proposal of a 325 million dollar deal. The deal will see the sale of sensor fused weapons and missiles, along with
other equipment and relevant services.
A South Korea military source says the procurement represents a major counter balance to the Democratic
People's Republic of Korea’s mechanized units. This comes one month after Seoul proposed another deal to
Washington to buy eight Seahawk helicopters and 18 Harpoon missiles, at a total value of 1 billion US dollars.
