SHE accepted her son's invitation to sleep over at his holiday house in Johor Baru but it was the start of a chain of events that sent her son to jail for 31/2 years.
While Madam Zaiton Mohd Sali, 63, slept, her son "borrowed" the keys to her flat in West Coast Drive. Mohd Yazid Ahmad, 39, then drove there and stole jewellery amounting to $13,800 and a set of house keys in the early hours of Jan 28. He then returned to Johor and put his mother's keys back into her handbag.
With the stolen set of keys, he would periodically "visit" his mother's home when he knew she was not in to steal. So that Madam Zaiton would not realise the thefts, he replaced the stolen jewellery with fake gold items.
Mohd Yazid pleaded guilty on Thursday to committing housebreaking and stealing nearly $26,000 worth of cash and jewellery from his mother from Jan 28 to March 10.
