</abbr></cite>March 24 (Reuters) - Softbank Corp will buy the Fukuoka Yahoo Japan Dome, the home of the Softbank Hawks, for 87 billion yen ($1.06 billion) in a major investment in its baseball team, the Nikkei daily reported.

Slated for this month, the purchase will eliminate about 5 billion yen in annual usage fees to the stadium's current owner, Government of Singapore Investment Corp, helping Softbank spend more on fan services and player acquisitions, the Japanese daily said.

The sovereign wealth fund, which is believed to have paid about 100 billion yen for the entire Hawks Town complex where the retractable-roof dome is located, is expected to retain ownership of the other parts -- the Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk hotel and the Hawks Town Mall, the daily said.

Softbank signed a 30-year lease on the Fukuoka Dome starting in 2005, a year after the telecom group entered professional baseball, the business daily reported.

13 billon yen down the drain yet again. Buy a stadium in Japan but do not want to invest in a stadium here in Singapore. Am I wrong to say that 13 billion yen is equivalent to S$200 million?

Are there any 'invesments' that actually made money?

Those that make money no one will post here. Pple only post those loss making ones if not it'll make the government look good.

Common sense if they keep losing money they would have gone bust a long time ago. e.g. Shin Corp making money every year. No one talks about it do they?

If they have been receiving 5 billion yen in usage fees from softbank for let say 5 years, that's about 25 billion , and they still have ownership of the hotels, therefore i think this investment actually made some money. So I think we can give them some credit for this.

Did a quick check

An affiliate of Temasek Holdings has sold 7.9% of its stake in Thai telecom company Shin Corp. Cedar Holdings, which is 49% owned by the Singaporean sovereign wealth fund, raised THB9.126 billion ($305 million) through the sale of 253.3 million shares at THB36 apiece. This represented a 10% discount on Shin Corp’s closing price on Wednesday. "

and,

"The transactions were executed via 25 big lot deals at 40.40 baht per share, valuing the deal at 8.08 billion baht ($254 million), according to the stock exchange data. The price represented a 7.1 percent discount to Shin's Wednesday closing price of 43.50 baht per share."

Take into account since 2006 and today 2012, inflation has already eaten into any paper profits if any.

They still own more then 40% shares and that was the article from last year. Last year Apple stock still 500 now 600 liao. Check my link for this year it's now at 58 Baht. Why the sold the shares at discounted price I have no idea maybe its a deal they cut with the Thai government to leave them alone or they need the want to increase cash flow. In any cash the shares are trading higher right now then when they bought it

as usual, the realized losses of the sold stakes are in hundreds of millions.

Read carefully again. The purchase by GIC is for the entire complex which cost 100billion. The sale of 87billion is only for the stadium alone which means they made a hell lot of money for Singapore.

I don't think you are reading it right bro. It is now less than 40% and they sold the 2 lots at a loss. Paper profits at about 8 baht per share after 6 years is good? You did not take into account the inflation. I am not checking it but it should be about 30% at least.

As usual, the MONGREL who bit his masters' hands LOUDHAILER chee soon juan and his followers like to spew disinformation.

Cannot read is it?

Are there any 'invesments' that actually made money?

wait a minute, they spend 100 billion yen to buy baseball stadium + hotel + shopping mall. Then they sell stadium for 87 billion yen.
so now they have hotel + shopping mall.

so how did SIC lost 13 billion yen?

Jesus.
