SINGAPORE: Singapore's Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong will be visiting Tokyo next week to receive the Grand Cordon of the Order of Rising Sun award from the Japanese Emperor.
Writing in the MParader Facebook page, Mr Goh said the award is being given to him for his contributions in strengthening bilateral ties between Singapore and Japan.
Mr Goh initiated the Japan-Singapore Economic Partnership Agreement (JSEPA) - the first free trade agreement for Japan.
And also launched the Japan-Singapore Symposium to enhance bilateral exchanges.
While in Tokyo, Mr Goh will meet the Japanese Foreign Minister, Takeaki Matsumoto, key politicians from the major political parties and prominent business leaders.
Mr Goh will be in Tokyo from Wednesday till Saturday.
