A better way is for the SMRT board to take a pay cut over the next 5 years that is equivalent to the $50m fine. They can revert to the current pay after that if there is no further major train disruption during the 5 years of pay cut.

S'poreans are a forgiving lot. No need to fine SMRT S$50M coz commuters will be the real victims of SMRT's incompetency. I suggest removing the top and hiring the people who know the business and technical know-how. Damage done by SPH has been very obvious, thanks to HC.
