Covid patient, 25, who grew up without a sense of smell reveals virus GAVE one to her

  • Nancy Simpson, 25, from London, has grown up without a sense of smell
  • However, she said she was surprised to find Covid had allowed her to start
  • It came as many people lost out on taste and smell while they had the virus

  • One symptom of Covid has been losing your sense of taste and smell, but now one patient who recovered from the virus revealed it enabled her to smell for the first time in her life.

Nancy Simpson, 25, from London, has never been able to smell.

Yet after she caught Covid at Christmas she was suddenly able to do so.

Since then she has been packing her room with scented candles and trying on perfumes.

  • Ms Simpson's case is one of the first times anyone has gained a sense of smell after having Covid.

While most people recover from not having a sense of smell owing to Covid in a few weeks, for roughly one in ten the problem, called anosmia, lingers for a month or more.

The sense of smell is intrinsically link to taste, which means sufferers commonly find food and drink become, quite literally, flavourless.

I feel happy for her that she can finally smell her own farts.
