Lebanon will reportedly grant FIFA Chief Gianni Infantino Lebanese citizenship, the Lebanese Football Association announced on Tuesday.
Infantino, who is on an official visit to Lebanon, met with President Joseph Aoun at the Presidential Palace after which Aoun reportedly agreed to grant Infantino citizenship, the LFA said in a statement on its website.

The FIFA chief is married to Lebanese national Leena al-Ashqar.
Lebanese women married to non-Lebanese men cannot pass on their citizenship to their husbands or children.
Aoun, according to the statement, “asked Infantino to complete the necessary documents and legal papers for the final signing of the Lebanese citizenship decree at a later time, in accordance with the applicable constitutional procedures.”
“The President stressed the importance of the move, saying it aligns with the strong relationship between Lebanon and FIFA, as well as with the projects Infantino has supported in recent years to strengthen Lebanon’s football infrastructure,” the statement added.
The Lebanese presidency didn’t make an official announcement on social media but said that Infantino was happy to be in Lebanon, adding that Aoun thanked him for his support to the Lebanese football game and his initiatives to develop it.
