Very obviously, their "explanation" about their ridiculous plan is nothing more than damage control. They had intention to barge in and stake a claim, then put up a proposal to make it look that they are the good guys, while WP are the unreasonable ones ignoring SDP's terms and claims.

Let's reverse the situation, WP stakes claim at Yuhua SMC -

Let's come up with a hypothetical case where Yuhua SMC is vacated and there's to be a by election. In the 2011 GE, Ms Teo Soh Lung from SDP had a straight fight against PAP. Won't SDP claim they should be the one to be contesting in the by election?
