Six Chinese people were killed after a suspected gas explosion at an outdoor food stall last night, with 19 others injured – two of them in critical condition, media reports said.
The explosion took place at the stall in in Chongzuo city, Ningming county, in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, at about 9.30pm, the state news agency Xinhua said.
Three people were killed at the scene, while three others died from their injuries in hospital.
Pictures of the blast scene on Weibo showed the food stall area had suffered severe damage.
The authorities, under the supervision of officials up to provincial level, are now investigating the cause of the blast.
Officials launched task forces to investigate incidents that increased risks associated with social stability in public places and manufacturing safety, Xinhua said.
