Six people have been injured by two knife-wielding men outside Guangzhou railway station, local police and media reported, in the latest in a string of violent attacks at public transport hubs.
At least six people were attacked at 11.30am on Tuesday when they were walking out of the station, the Guangzhou Daily said.
Police confirmed the attack on their Weibo microblog and said one of the attackers was shot by officers who arrived on the scene, and had been detained. They added that all six injured had been hospitalised.
However it was unclear how many attackers there were, as the police did not specify the number of assailants and there were conflicting media reports too. The Guangzhou Daily described them as “two young men,” while other reports said there were four attackers.

The other assailant or assailants were still at large.
Online photos showed several people lying on the ground at the scene being treated by medical staff, while large crowds were cordoned off. Blood was seen on the ground.
The attack came less than a week after the suicide attack on Urumqi railway station in Xinjiang, which left three people dead.
Xinjiang authorities said two people carried out the attack last Wednesday evening, killing one bystander, the two attackers and injuring 79 others. The attack coincided with the end of a four-day visit to Xinjiang by President Xi Jinping.
Last June a series of clashes in the region killed at least 35 people. Beijing has blamed the violence in Xinjiang on separatists.
The government has said the militants were also behind the knife attacks at Kunming railway station in Yunnan in March that left 29 people and four assailants dead, and another 143 wounded.
