Sitter's husband jailed, caned

<!-- end left side bar --> <!-- story content : start --> AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD girl, who had been placed in foster care after being ill-treated by her babysitter, took nearly a year to confide in her foster mother that she had also been sexually abused. On Friday, the High Court sentenced the babysitter's husband to 24 years in jail and 24 strokes of the cane. The 48-year-old man pleaded guilty to making her perform oral sex on him and inserting his finger into her private parts. He also admitted to pulling her hair, punching her face and hurting her with a table decoration. He cannot be named as it could lead to the identification of the victim. His wife had been earlier jailed for 14 months for ill-treating the girl.

SINGAPORE: A 48-year-old man was sentenced to 24 years' jail and 24 strokes of the cane at the High Court on Friday, for abusing an eight-year-old girl.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the girl's identity, is the husband of a babysitter, who was convicted recently of beating the girl. The babysitter is serving 14 months in jail for the crime.

The girl was placed in a foster home following the incident.

But a year after the beatings, the girl told her current foster parent that the man made her perform oral sex on him.

He had also sexually abused and punched her, the court heard.
