Another large fire is burning on Defence Force land, this time in a remote area near Waiouru, in the Central North Island.
The fire, which started two days ago, now stretches across 350 hectares of scrubland and the Defence Force has admitted it began during an artillery training exercise.

It comes just a day after a fire on a rifle range in Canterbury, which injured a Defence Force staff member.
A Waiouru Defence Force spokesperson says dry conditions contributed to the recent incident.
Four Defence helicopters are helping fight the blaze, along with army personnel and a visiting Singaporean platoon training on the base.
3 News understands the blaze is situated in a remote area of the Three Kings Range.

i was told by my company's email broadcast that the saf was in town for training and this was in townsville, all the hotels were fully booked. And there is another two at Annerley air base to the north plus another chopper base at toowoomba.
