THIS 'us-against-them' mentality manifesting in the recent disputes between the Workers' Party (WP) and the People's Association is disturbing ('Grassroots stand by accounts of WP tactics'; last Thursday).
The first line of the article alone highlights the crux of the issue: 'The People's Action Party's (PAP) grassroots advisers to Hougang and Aljunied GRC are standing by their accounts of difficulties their grassroots activists have faced when dealing with the town councils run by the Workers' Party.'
The WP and PAP may be two different political parties, but each had its candidates elected because of the electorate.
We are all Singaporeans; nobody should be penalised, for we are all working towards the common good of Singapore. However, the accusations and the pushing around of blame in the article reflect a sadly different story.
Only with One Government - one that has learnt to put aside rivalry to work together - can we bring Singapore to greater heights.
