I'm a local uni graduate with a second upper honours general degree.
I'm currently working with a private company and while the money and benefits are pretty good, I have issues with the shift work, the job duties and work-life balance (or lack thereof..), and so I intend to quit in the near future.
I have no lofty aims of climbing the corporate ladder or amassing obscene amounts of wealth. I'd like to do something that allows me to have a life, ie. working only on monday to friday, 9-6 or thereabouts.
So, a few questions:
1.) I have a second upper and have been led to believe that this should at least get me in the door for interviews, but I didn't get a single call when I was applying for jobs...I probably applied for around 10 civil service positions. Might there be any red flags that I'm unaware of in my resume?
2.) How much truth is there to the stereotype of civil service positions having adequate work life balance?
3.) How would the HR people in the civil service view job hopping? I intend to stay in my current job only for a year at the maximum. My previous job was also a short term gig because it was a contract position.

This is the reason why companies avoid hiring sinkies. They're just so damned lazy.

If I was hiring, I'd look for someone who worked from 7 am to 8 pm and who was willing to work weekends too if necessary.
