52 year-old Pang Chong Seng was sentenced to 4 months jail on Wednesday for reckless driving, which caused a spate of accidents involving a prime mover, a lorry, a motorcyclist who later died of his injuries, and 7 other vehicles behind the motorcyclist. Pang was also disqualified from all driving licences for 4 years.

Another driver, 48 year-old Lim Kok Aun, was also fined $7,000 for causing death by a rash of negligent act and similarly disqualified from all driving licenses for 4 years.

During morning rush hour on 19th June, Pang had been driving on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) and was swerving dangerously between lanes. He suddenly dropped his speed to point both his middle fingers at a motorcyclist, whom he accused of taking photos of him. This action caused the prime mover behind him to brake suddenly. Lim's lorry, which was tailgating the prime mover, had no choice but to brake abruptly and swerve to the right, slamming his lorry into motorcyclist 35 year-old Liow Yong Seng.

The impact with Lim's lorry was so great, Liow and his motorcycle were flung into the air, causing chaos as 7 other vehicles got into accidents to avoid Liow and his vehicle.

Prior to this, Pang has a record of 7 traffic offences. In total, he had been fined more than S$1,380 in the past.

Pang could have faced a maximum sentence of 12 months' jail, a fine up to S$5,000, or both. Lim could have faced a maximum sentence of two years' jail, or with fine, or both.
