KUALA LUMPUR: A Singaporean man and woman were found dead in a homestay in Cheras on Friday (May 16).

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Aidil Bolhassan, in a statement Saturday (May 17), said that the bodies of the two were found on Friday by a homestay worker.

The worker had noticed their shoes still at the property along Taman Taynton and had knocked at the door but received no response back.

"When the door was opened with the help of the homestay's manager, they found that the air-conditioner, fan and TV were still turned on in the living room.

"As one of the room doors in the homestay was stuck, they then looked through a window and found both bodies on the bed. They also noticed a foul smell from the room," he said.

Police investigations showed no signs of injuries on the bodies and no criminal elements involved.

Police also found ketamine in a stainless steel plate in the room.

Two Singaporeans, a 43-year-old man and 33-year-old woman, were found dead at a homestay on Jalan Nadchatiram in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.

Cheras district police chief ACP Aidil Bolhassan said the police received an emergency call at 12.53pm on May 16 and the pair were found unconscious in a room by a staff member, reported Bernama.

"When the door was opened with the help of the homestay's manager, they found that the air-conditioner, fan and TV were still turned on in the living room.

"As one of the room doors in the homestay was stuck, they then looked through a window and found both bodies on the bed. They also noticed a foul smell from the room," said Aidil, reported The Star.

The bodies, which were fully clothed, were already decomposing and emitting a foul odour then.

Police inspections of the bodies found no external injuries and there were no signs of foul play, reported The Star.

"Further checks at the scene found that the air-conditioner had been wrapped with blue garbage plastic pieces and the window sealed with plastic canvas," Aidil said.

"Inspections also revealed remnants of burnt charcoal in a barbecue container and a substance suspected to be ketamine on a plate in the room."

A female homestay worker told police that at around 11am on the day that the bodies were discovered, she noticed that the front door of the homestay was locked, and the victims' shoes were still outside.

She had knocked on the door several times but there was no response.

After informing the homestay manager, she was instructed to unlock the door with a spare key.

Upon entering the room, she found the ceiling fan, air-conditioner and television switched on in the living room.

"She then proceeded to the third bedroom of the homestay and noticed tape around the door and the window sealed with plastic canvas," recounted Aidil.

"She opened the window and saw both victims lying unconscious on the bed, and the room was filled with a foul smell."

An assistant medical officer from Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz pronounced both victims dead at the scene at 2.22 pm.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.

They should have done it at Genting Highlands, which is nearby. They could further obfuscate the motive by adding gambling to the case.

A Singaporean man, who was found dead with his wife in a Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia guesthouse on May 16, was allegedly a pimp, who was suspected of raping an underage girl.

This was just two weeks before his death.

Wanted

Cheras District Police Chief Aidil Bolhassan said in an interview that the suspect had been involved in some crimes in Selangor, but died before the cases could be brought to court, China Press reported.

Aidil confirmed with Shin Min Daily News that Xie was wanted by the police for his involvement in several offences, including soliciting prostitution, and possession of obscene materials.

He was also being investigated for an offence under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Aidil said the case has not yet been prosecuted as Xie did not answer calls from investigators.

Ruled as suicide

Malaysia authorities later ruled their deaths as suicide on May 18.

KL police said the couple had sealed the doors and windows, and were also believed to have used a grill and charcoal to take their own lives.

He added that their families have been notified and the case is still under investigation.

The statement follows the discovery of their bodies under suspicious circumstances on May 16.

The couple was found dead in a guesthouse located on Jalan Nadchatiram, Cheras, by a staff member who noticed that their shoes were still outside after their supposed checkout time.

After receiving no response to repeated knocks on the door, the staff then entered the room with the manager's permission.

The pair was found on the bed with the air conditioner, fan, and television still running.

Apart from remnants of burnt charcoal, police also found ketamine on a plate.

The bodies were reportedly in a state of decomposition.

The couple, who reportedly registered their marriage a year ago on May 24, 2024, had been staying at the guesthouse for five nights.

Authorities urged individuals facing mental health challenges to seek help.
