REALITY TV actress Tila Tequila has alleged that audience members pelted her with stones and faeces during an outdoor music festival in southern Illinois, USA.
Hardin County Sheriff Tom Seiner told a TV station it happened early last Saturday at the Gathering of the Juggalos, a weekend festival centred on the band Insane Clown Posse and other groups from Psychopathic Records.
Fans call themselves the Juggalos. They drink an inexpensive soft drink called Faygo, wear face paint and liken themselves to a family.
They view Psychopathic Records artistes' lyrics, which are mostly violent in content, as a catharsis for aggression.
Mr Seiner said Tequila, whose real name is Tila Nguyen, complained that she was injured when audience members threw rocks at her as soon as she went on stage. She also claimed she was hit with faeces, AP reported.
One witness was quoted as saying: "She was taunting them (the fans). She didn't know how to handle the (crowd)...She took her top off and they got really violent."
Tequila said she suffered cuts on her face, entertainment news website TMZ.com reported.
She said: "They also threw beer bottles, which slit my eyes open. My hair almost got burnt because they threw firecrackers on stage."
Comedian Tom Green, who performed at the festival, told CNN that the actress was mobbed by hundreds of Juggalos and chased from the stage.
They then surrounded a trailer where she had sought refuge, rocked it and smashed its windows, he told CNN.
Tequila eventually escaped, but not before windows of her car were smashed, Mr Seiner said.
The actress tweeted that she plans to take the organisers to court: "Pretty soon the owners who run the Juggalos will be bankrupt. My attorney Alan is already on it. This is disgusting behaviour from men."
CNN reported that she had been warned that it was dangerous for her to take the stage.
A written statement from organisers and Insane Clown Posse called the violence "extremely unfortunate", but it said: "Juggalo Gathering, LLC and Insane Clown Posse are not responsible."
