Singaporean Amos Yee, 27, has been listed as one of the "worst of worst criminal aliens arrested by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)".
The site, "Arrested: Worst of the Worst", is by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Its acronym is "WOW".
The purpose, as stated, is to highlight those arrested and their crimes, as well as acknowledge the hardworking men and women of DHS and ICE, who are "fulfilling" President Donald Trump's "promise" and "carrying out mass deportations".
Yee's profile, where he is listed under the "Singapore" category (and the only entry under this category) states:
Yee was released on parole on Nov. 20, but detained and held in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody at Dodge Detention Facility in Wisconsin less than a week later.
This was according to the ICE Online Detainee Locator System.
Yee was previously held under the Illinois Department of Corrections.
On its website, ICE stated that it detains "aliens" who are subject to mandatory detention or those that ICE determines are a public safety or flight risk during the custody determination process.
Yee fled Singapore in 2016 before a scheduled medical ahead of his compulsory national service enlistment.
He later sought and was granted asylum in the U.S., but was sent to jail after being convicted of child pornography and child sex-related grooming charges in December 2021.
He was released on parole on Oct. 7, 2023, but was detained again in November 2023.
Responding to queries from Mothership, Singapore's Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said that Yee will be charged upon his return under the Enlistment Act for failing to report for his pre-enlistment medical screening and for remaining outside the country without a valid exit permit.
Enlistment Act offenders are liable on conviction to a fine of up to S$10,000 and/ or imprisonment of up to three years.
Mindef also said it is unable to comment on whether there have been discussions between the U.S. and Singapore authorities regarding Amos Yee’s deportation following his release from prison.
