88% of Singaporeans hope to build career abroad: Survey

AsiaOne
Wednesday, Jan 15, 2014

SINGAPORE - A large majority of Singaporeans would like to build their careers overseas, a report has found.

Jobstreet's latest survey of 771 people found that 88 per cent of Singaporeans hoped to go abroad for a couple of years to build their professional profile.

While 28 per cent of working Singaporean respondents said they were actively looking for overseas career opportunities, 60 per cent indicated plans to work abroad at some point of their careers.

Only 12 per cent said that they preferred to remain in Singapore.

Of those who wished to work abroad, 35 per cent said they thought that overseas experience could increase future employability. Better pay and living conditions were the second most common consideration for those who wished to work overseas.

Nonetheless, most respondents said they would return to Singapore after gaining international experience for a period of between three to five years.

Respondents who wanted a career abroad but did not pursue it cited family commitments as the main factor stopping them from leaving Singapore. Other considerations included better remuneration packages, job opportunities and political stability at home.

Of the work destinations to choose from, Australia emerged as the most preferred country, with 27 per cent identifying the country as the most ideal to work in.

And they are dreamers with no sense of reality. Most countries don't have the liberal immigration policies that sinkapore has. Sinkees think that they can suka suka go to any country to work. Time for a reality check.

Anyone who has skills which are demand can easily get a work visa in NZ which can then be converted to permanent residency at a later date.

Many Brazilians arrive in NZ on student visas and then apply for work visas which lead to residency if they play their cards right.

When there is a will, there is always a way.

If you have the skills. you definitely can suka suka work in any country you desire. Many of my friends are expats in other countries.
One of them is a poly grad who earned shit wages in SG. Moved to Scandinavia and he's rolling in the big bucks.
Oh, and escaping from the demonic clutches of NS reservist liability is always a welcome side benefit.

In Sinkieland, no matter how skilled you are, you'l have to accept that opportunities are paltry and your pay has been artificially depressed by you-know-who.

there are many poly grads who make good in the bay area. broadcom, intel, qualcomm, apple, oracle, google love them, as they can get to work right away without a steep learning curve.

The way is definitely easier in Singapore for foreigners....even 4 month social visa can look for jobs here, in NZ you still need to get a study visa.

Just go out of Sinkie Land to work if the opportunity arises.. Be brave and grab the chance.

Doesn't matter even if you're located in the SEA region.. At least its better than being stuck in Sinkie Land and commuting to work using the fucked up public transport..

I'm happy and enjoying every minute of my time now being based in Malaysia..
