I REFER to the letter by Ms Alice Cheah last Saturday, "Maid levy relief: Don't leave single women out".
I very much wanted to employ a maid to take care of my elderly parents (one of them has cancer and diabetes). I dread the day when both my parents fall sick. A maid would come in handy, especially in administering the daily medication. But the cost of having a maid is not cheap.
If relief is made available to singles, it would be both a financial and mental freedom to us.
I cannot help but feel that singles are discriminated against simply for their choice to be single. I hope someone can explain why singles are not as eligible as those who are married in terms of tax reliefs.
Also, shouldn't parent-care leave be made available to singles with elderly parents?

Single Ah Lian, presumably put off from marriage by the useless Ah Beng is looking for a discount on slave labor. Hypocritical isn't it? On one hand local Chinks want FT out of peesai, but on the other hand are looking to depress and enslave foreigners to do their dirty work.

Is this the reason why the FTs are hell bent on depriving Ah Beng of employment?
