<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->THE letter by Mr Paul Chan last Wednesday ('High cab rentals and surcharges akin to price fixing') correctly identifies all problems associated with taxis in Singapore.
He hit the nail on the head several times when he mentioned high rent paid by cabbies, Electronic Road Pricing charges on cab travel and customer-unfriendly impediments (the myriad of surcharges and times when charges are imposed - customers find it difficult to remember or comprehend).
It is time to simplify things and introduce a single taxi fare system. This will lift the burden from customers (especially tourists) and cabbies, and make taxi rides pleasant and affordable, once and for all. R. Jaichandra

Rentals will never come down. If it does, taxis are as good as saloon car rentals.
Drivers will be more lazy n picky

Taxi drivers (50,000 out of the 52,000) are the scum of the earth

Our newspapers have run out of topics if they keep publishing these letters from and about cab drivers

Its a recession, everybody is working longer and harder except for the loser strumming guitar at beach

So if taxi driver has to work harder, there's nothing wrong

If life as taxi driver so hard, drive bus lah. SBS Transit website still hiring drivers, got CPF, got paid leave, got medical insurance, why don't want

Want the benefits but don't want work hard, attitude got problems
