In December 2025, more than S$15.3mil was lost to scammers impersonating insurance/payment institutions (e.g. NTUC, UnionPay), and government officials (e.g. MAS and SPF).

Singaporeans are too afraid of government and authorities which led to them being scammed. That's why it's important not to let authorities intimidate us.

If we follow the principle of Rule of Law and that no one should be above the law, it would prevent a lot of harm in society. Because not even a government officer can ask you to do anything illegal. Not even your superior can ask you to violate the law.

In short. Never blindly comply. Always ask questions and verify directly.
