Singaporean held over fake printer cartridges

KUALA LUMPUR - Police have crushed a racket that produced fake printer refill cartridges carrying a popular market brand with the arrest of a Singaporean businessman and his partner here.
Twelve Vietnamese workers connected to the counterfeiting business, which reportedly caused millions of ringgits in losses for the IT-based company and the industry, were also arrested.
All of them were detained during raids by commercial crime officers on a house in Brickfields and two factories in Taman Bukit Permai Utama in Cheras on Tuesday.
Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department Director Comm Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan said the raids came after reports lodged by the company.
"The Singaporean, who is married to a local, was arrested at a hotel in the city," he said here yesterday.
"Police also raided his house in Brickfields, where documents related to his activities were seized.
Initial investigations revealed that the goods were meant for the local market and for export to Middle East and African countries.
