Bail denied: Quah being led out of the magistrate’s court after being charged. With him is his lawyer Lim (left).

TEMERLOH: A Singaporean taxi driver has been charged in two separate courts here with stabbing his wife and murdering a Chinese national.

Quah Tee Keon, 46, is alleged to have murdered Ruan Chao Qiang at a house in Taman Mawar Indah in Triang, Bera at around 3.30am on Oct 13.

The offence carries the death penalty.

The charge was read out in English as Quah could not understand Bahasa Malaysia.

Quah’s lawyer Lim Lip Eng asked for bail due to his client’s diabetic and asthmatic condition.

However, DPP Ellyna Othman asked magistrate Najwa Hashim to deny the request.

The magistrate denied Quah bail and set Dec 17 for mention.

At the Sessions Court, Quah claimed trial to the charge of injuring his wife Loong Mei Ling, 33, by stabbing her with the knowledge that it would cause death.

He had allegedly committed the offence at the same place and time where the murder of Ruan took place.

He faces a 20-year jail term if found guilty.

Judge Habibah Mohamed Yusof set Dec 17 for mention as well.

Lawyer Lim said Quah had been complaining of not being given his medicine for diabetes and asthma.

DPP Ellyna said that the authorities would ensure that Quah was given medical attention.

It was reported that the accused had slashed the Chinese national to death for allegedly spending the night with his wife at his house.

After killing the foreigner, the husband then turned on his wife and attacked her before fleeing.

The woman suffered multiple injuries on her neck, hands and back in the incident.

The accused later surrendered in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 28.
