Tit-for-tat. If India could do it to other countries, why not we return the favour by disallowing Indian nationals from setting up shop here. Serangoon Road business has virtually been taken over by Indian retailers.

India MPs end deadlock as retail suspension confirmed
Calcutta market, 5 Dec Critics say the reform would destroy millions of jobs and businesses in retail

India's parliament has ended a two-week deadlock after the government confirmed It was suspending a plan to open up the retail market to global supermarkets.

The decision has been suspended "till a consensus is developed through consultation among various stakeholders", a statement said.

Opposition parties hailed a "victory" but the government insisted the suspension was only temporary.

The decision to allow foreign chains into India has been fiercely opposed.

Critics say the move will destroy millions of jobs and businesses among smaller retailers.

Thats rather shortsighted of them. Its like killing the golden goose just to get 1 egg while letting it live you can get an unlimited supply.

That because local cannot compete with Ah Neh retail price. So complaint, those in business should think of a way to compete with Ah Neh price/service/quality.

Singapore should prohibit ah nehs from entering the country in the first place...
