Dorozoku map
A Japanese website is causing a stir in Japan because it maps out neighborhoods with noisy children and gossiping adults, reports the Guardian. The Dorozoku map at dqn.today/dzrqn-map shows circles in orange, yellow, and green on a map indicating which areas had the most complaints with orange being the most. From loud children to gossiping adults, anyone could register a complaint about anything in the neighborhood that disturbs the tranquility of the area. According to Asahi, the term “Dorozuku” has become a term referring to loud annoying people.

“Primary school children are always playing and romping around the street, causing trouble to people living nearby,” one user said.

“A baby can be heard crying shortly after 7 in the morning,” another said.

“Children of lower kindergarten age are shouting on the street in the evening and on Saturdays and Sundays,” another said.

The 40 something creator of the website asked to remain unnamed after being contacted by Asahi. The site has seen its share of backlash with many accusing the creator of being intolerant to children.

The Dorozoku map website was created in 2016 to “provide information so users can choose better places to relocate to.” He started it after he noticed some noisy children playing in front of his home which distracted him from working.

“I believe the dorozoku problem is partly harassment by neighbors,” he said. “I want to be of help to eliminating the issue as the times change.”

He defended his website claiming that children should be seen and not heard. He also said that his website was a place where people could air their grievances about the area they were in.

“I know some people will probably see the map as unfairly exposing them,” he said. “But it’s also a fact that many people are constantly troubled by noise and other issues.”

The website accepts registrations and screens them to remove any personal information, slanderous messages, or anything that could lead to a crime.

The website has helped many find neighborhoods to move to. Although most use the website to find quiet neighborhoods, others have used the website to find places where it’s more children-friendly.
