Over 10,000 primary school students have enrolled in SwimSafer programme

SINGAPORE : More than 10,000 students from over 60 primary schools have enrolled in the latest national water safety programme.

The programme will kick off on Monday.

The new SwimSafer scheme by the National Water Safety Council replaces the current Learn-to-Swim Programme and the National Survival Swimming Award initiative.

The six-stage SwimSafer programme will help children of all ages and abilities develop water safety as well as swimming skills at their own pace.

Between April and June this year, 650 existing swimming instructors have been trained under the SwimSafer Instructor Course to ensure there are certified instructors to teach students.

This initiative follows the Council's review of Singapore's existing national water safety programmes in July 2008.
It found that a single national framework that focuses on the prevention of drowning is needed.

SwimSafer was launched on Saturday at Geylang East Swimming Complex.

Must plan for future islandwide flood. You know Singapore is not flood-free. Knowing how to swim could be a life-saver.

wahlaneh...
all better standby rubber dinghy, canoes, bamboo raft, etc...to replace cars, motorbikes, lorries, buses, etc...in the event of another Great Singapore Flood.
