Tan Hang Cheong was on the job less than 4 years. Albeit well-liked by students & most staff the announcement of him stepping down SUDDENLY is surprising to many. What happened, especially when the Board of Governors acknowledged his many good contributions which outshined that of previous principal Wong Fook, an ex (tired) civil servant who was really warming his arse before retirement and got kicked upstairs to run golden car park job: SP International....... Wong did not bring any industry connection to the job; neither was it a critical job requirement during appointment of Tan Hang Cheong!
So when all of a sudden is industry connection important? Being from EDB does not necessarily mean well-connected to the industries - any senior executive from SPRING is far well-connected to EDB which is much compartmentalised and has narrow scope.

So back to the question: is this a shake up? Hang Cheong was deemed to be doing a good job, at least far better than previous SP principals like Koo Kay Chye and Wong Fook. Why then the re-shuffle?
Is a bigger news coming like affair with student or staff? Or promoting christianty on the quiet as most SP directors are christians and second-liners can only be promoted if they are christians. Is this true??? Praise be the lord!

At 58, he's already 10 or so years beyond the ideal retirement age of 45. However, if he hurries, he can still make up for lost time.

Something isn't right in SP.......... who might know the details from inner circle. This guy is the shortest serving principal. I also heard he is good! Better than past principals. Has it got to do with resignation of previous chairman of Board of Governors? Or unable to straighten screwups at Library: hiring of a diploma holder to be honco, over-spending & piss poor HR mgmt to mention a few.
