Singapore Permanent Residents (PRs) Are now working as Under Home Ministry
A PRISON officer who passed unauthorised messages and documents between an inmate in maximum security and his wife was jailed for two weeks yesterday.

Parameswaran Selvadurai, a 10-year veteran of the Singapore Prison Service, admitted acting as a go-between on two occasions.

One involved conveying an OCBC bank form to inmate Sashikumar Rathakrishnana, 34, from the man's wife, Ms Bavani Jayapalan.

Parameswaran, 35, also brought out a photocopy of a letter sent to the inmate, who was in maximum security for secret society activity, and gave it to Ms Bavani.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ilona Tan said Parameswaran contacted Sashikumar's wife in 2010 after the inmate said he wanted to speak to his family urgently. He also gave his mobile phone number to Ms Bavani, and they subsequently struck up a platonic friendship, meeting on several occasions despite the officer not being authorised to contact her.

Around mid-2010, Ms Bavani asked Parameswaran to help her by getting her husband to sign a bank form. He agreed and brought the document into Changi Prison when he reported for work the next day.

A few months later, he told Ms Bavani that Sashikumar had been receiving letters from an unidentified female named Jennifer. He made a copy of one of the letters and gave it to Ms Bavani outside the prison.

His offences were discovered by his employer only in September 2011. Parameswaran, who is a Malayian, has lost his permanent residency status. He could have been fined up to $3,000 and/or jailed for up to 12 months on each charge.

How many Ah Nehs have been stripped of their PR status when convicted and deported? The PAP treats Malaysians harshly while go easy on the Ah Nehs.

It looks like the PAP is scared of India, why?

Hardly a surprise. The PAP govt and its statisticians love to lump the pink cards and the blue cards into a collective group known as 'Singapore residents'.

There's nothing wrong with that. It's exactly the same in NZ. In fact, PRs have voting rights and I have voted in every single general election since I arrived.

PRs should not have voting rights as they have not unequivocally declare their commitment to the new country.

Say whet you like but its the norm in some countries.
Why else do you think vile pappies want to import till 6.9 million?
One day when they see themselves losing ground....one of their last resort would be to pass this as law for sinkieland.

The US doesn't allow PRs to vote.

Indeed, and if you are in the UK you can also vote as long as you register and you are from a commonwealth country. So not just PR gets to vote. Wonder if Singapore would start to do that? ;)

The right of Commonwealth and Irish citizens to vote is a legacy of the Representation of the People Act 1918, which limited the vote to British subjects. At that time, "British subjects" included the people of Ireland — then part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland — and all other parts of the British Empire. Though most of Ireland (see Ireland Act 1949) and the majority of the colonies became independent nations, their citizens have retained the right to vote if they live in the United Kingdom.

Neither do those who apply for citizenship. They are entitled to keep as many nationalities as they want. I have a friend who has an NZ passport, an OZ passport and an EU passport all obtained perfectly legally based on ancestry and residency.

When ministerial positions also can outsource then we use pinky's pay to hire US ex presidents and EU PMs....with change to spare.
Now already got FT ministers and MPs now....we should 'globalise' our govt cabinet.
