SINGAPORE - Two women were issued a 12-month conditional warning on Friday (July 6) for making inflammatory comments online and criminal trespass, the police said in a statement.
In October 2017, the police started investigating the two 28-year-old women for posting remarks on Facebook that were "prejudicial to the maintenance of racial and religious harmony".
The two women had been praying in the fire escape stairwell of a mall that same month and were advised by security personnel after they had finished praying to use a nearby prayer room as the stairwell had to be kept unobstructed for fire safety reasons.
Despite this advice, both women returned to pray at the same fire escape stairwell the next day.
When security personnel again advised them to use the designated prayer room, they demanded to see a security supervisor, who they subsequently accused of being racist.
After the encounter, they posted on Facebook alleging that members of one race looked down on those of another.
