Singapore man jailed 14 weeks for commercial sex with girl under 18: A man received a jail sentence of 14 weeks in Singapore on Monday for having commercial sex with a girl under the age of 18, according to reports.
The suspect, 40-year-old Aw Koh Pheng, admitted in court to two of the seven charges against him, which were paying a sum of between $300 and $400 for each encounter where he engaged the minor for her sexual services, said reports.
The girl was 15 years old when he met her for the first time at the Fragrance Hotel-Royal located at Telok Blangah Road for sexual services on November 8, 2010.
She had turned 16 when the suspect met her on the last occasion for her services at the Fragrance Hotel-Viva at Wishart Road on September 30, 2011, said reports.
The district court heard that the victim had been operating through four agents and had been charging customers a minimum of $300 for her sexual services, according to a report in The Straits Times.
The court also reportedly heard that she had been paying her agent $50 per customer for each sexual encounter.
Prostitution is actually legal in Singapore, but various activities related to prostitution are not. These include public solicitation, living on the earnings of a prostitute, and maintaining a brothel.
In addition, under Singaporean law, obtaining the sexual services of a person under 18 years of age is a criminal offence.
In a separate and ongoing case in Singapore, 30 suspects out of a total of 51 have thus far been convicted and sentenced on charges related to an online vice ring involving commercial sex with underage escort workers.
